Mid-Century Modern "Rooftop View" Vintage Cityscape Oil Painting, Framed

Rooftop view. Size: 60.5 X 74 cm (including frame) Oil on canvas. A subdued and brilliantly executed winter street scene composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1970. The painting presents a winter scene where rows of buildings of different colours and sizes and with snow-covered rooftops are neatly presented and arranged. Modernist elements are certainly present in this painting, with the artist skilfully using flattened forms and blocks of contrasting colours to create depth and a sense of space, and beautifully composing an almost puzzle-like composition with different-sized geometric shapes fitting together. Through the use of warm and subdued muted colours, as well as soft and gentle brushstrokes, the painting wonderfully captures the quiet and melancholic atmosphere of winter. This oil on canvas is housed in complementary dark wood frame with an inner gilt window. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
