Religious painting from the 17th century, Saint Catherine of Siena chooses the crown of thorns

Cod: 11019. Splendid italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil artwork on canvas depicting a religious subject, saint catherine of siena chooses the crown of thorns. Christ appears to the saint who will have to choose between a golden crown, symbol of earthly royalty, and a crown of thorns, symbol of christian sacrifice. Catherine does not hesitate to choose the crown of thorns and indicates it by preferring a life in imitation of christ. A painting of great pictorial quality, the creation of the drapery and the brilliance of the colors are notable. Note a magnificent little angel at the bottom left holding lilies in his hands, an iconographic attribute of the dominican saint. Modern carved and gilded wooden frame, with some small signs of aging. Painting of great size and impact, ideal for inclusion in a living room or study, for antique dealers, interior designers and collectors of sacred art from the high period.
