This chair was part of the very first (rare) series of this iconic 860-861 model of the "universale" by joe colombo. It is recognizable by its fins on the side, and the different stamp of the editions succeeded it (4867): " kartell® binasco (milano) 860 e 861 (5) made in italy. Design - prof. Joe colombo. The shapes have a functional justification for stacking it and the central hole provides a comfortable socket to move it, while allowing air and water to flow in case of outdoor use. Considered a must-have of the design of the 1960s, it is featured in permanent exhibitions of prestigious museums, such as the moma in new york or the beaubourg centre in paris. Solid, stackable and produced in multiple colours, it reflects the particularly strong enthusiasm in italy of the late 1960s for modern plastic furniture. As the name of the "universale" model suggests, the chair can be used indoors or outdoors.
